Welcome to the Open Video Coding website. This site is a resource for an ambitious new field of research and development that has the potential to dramatically improve the flexibility and efficiency of video compression systems. Open Video Coding complements recent developments such as MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC). Click on the "About" link to find out about the concept, potential benefits and research challenges. The "Downloads" section includes research papers, standards contributions and resources.

We have demonstrated the feasibility of the Fully Configurable Video Coding concept by developing a real-time software prototype. However, there are important challenges to be addressed in order to show that Fully Configurable Video Coding is a serious alternative to conventional approaches and to open up wider research and development participation.

We are seeking input from industry and research partners, specifically in the following areas:
•    Liaison with software and semiconductor companies
•    Liaison with standards bodies
•    Development and maintenance of specifications for FCVC platform
•    Development and maintenance of reference designs

If you would like to get involved, please  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss further.
